Enduro India Challenge 2004

In February 2004 I was part of a team who flew out to India to take part in the Enduro India 2004 Motorcycle Challenge. We rode Royal Enfield 350cc 'Bullet' motorcycles (1950’s Spec) in the southern Indian states of Kerala and Tamil Nadu. The route was be challenging on both rider and bike.

We donated 100 new Royal Enfield motorcycles to the WWF, to help them stop tiger poaching. We  donated £20,000 to the Rainbow Trust for terminally ill children here in the UK.  For my part I raised £3,424 in sponsorship including a personal contribution of £500

I was first inspired to take part in this venture in 1998 when I happened along a postcard in my local gym. You know the ones, advertising some product or other and the one about 99% need not apply from the Royal Marines.

However in 1998 I was in the process of leaving the Royal Marines where I had been employed since 1974, and was more focused on gaining paid employment to keep me and mine in the style we had become accustomed to...

The Postcard

5 Years down the line I am now shining the seat of my pants on a swivel chair staring into the abyss known as a computer screen, and becoming comfortable with my mundane existence as an IT Services Manager.

Then  I came across the afore mentioned postcard which I had kept as a reminder of something which I would do when I had time.
But when do we ever really get the time to realise our dreams?

Well all it takes is determination and the right opportunity, right! I’ve took these first steps towards realising a dream, and take a two week adventure away from the desk I seem to have been tied to for the last 5 years.

Even if you do not take time to browse the site but are interested in the ride here are a few extracts from the head-cam video I shot during the trip... 1. Video 1   2. Video 2  3.  Video 3  4.  Video 4  5  Video 5  Well worth viewing to get a feeling of the roads traffic and bike.  Enjoy
